Crown Jewel Diamond Painting began with a simple realization:
I could be the elsewhere.
I was brand new to diamond painting, only about 30 to 50 days into the craft, when I came across a post on social media. Someone had reached out to one of the largest companies in the diamond painting industry and asked for more diversity in its artwork.
The response, essentially, was: look elsewhere.
But when I looked, I couldn't find the “elsewhere.”
As a woman of color and a new diamond painter, I wanted artwork that looked like me. I wanted to see people from my community represented positively, beautifully, and accurately. I wanted images that reflected our skin tones, our culture, our faith, our families, our joy, our traditions, and the many shades that make us who we are.
And in that moment, I realized something:
I could create the elsewhere I was looking for.
And Crown Jewel Diamond Painting was born.
Building What I Wanted to See
I immediately went to work creating a diamond art company centered on representation, artwork featuring people of color, created thoughtfully and intentionally by a woman of color.
I started with the things I would want to see as a diamond artist myself, images that celebrated my community and culture while leaving room for Crown Jewel to grow and celebrate the stories and cultures of other communities of color as well.
The goal was never simply to put a different face on a canvas.
The goal was to create artwork that made people feel seen.
After developing designs, reviewing renderings, testing samples, and making changes along the way, Crown Jewel launched with seven canvases, seven different stories and seven opportunities for someone to see themselves reflected in a craft they love.
A Fresh Perspective on the Diamond Painting Experience
I came into the craft with fresh eyes, and I noticed the little things.
For example, I didn't want someone purchasing their first Crown Jewel kit to immediately feel like they needed to go buy better tools before they could truly enjoy it.
So I asked a different question:
What would I want if this were my very first diamond painting?
That question helped shape the Crown Jewel experience.
Our kits include an upgraded toolkit designed to be useful from the very beginning, including a tray with a lid and stopper, a comfortable barrel style pen with multiple placement tips, and coordinating wax.
Because whether you've completed a hundred canvases or you're opening your very first one, I want opening a Crown Jewel box to feel like an experience, not just another project.
Every Diamond Tells a Story
From the beginning, I knew Crown Jewel needed to stand for something bigger than beautiful canvases.
Our artwork carries stories.
Stories of culture.
Stories of faith.
Stories of family.
Stories of joy.
Stories of pride.
Stories of the many shades and experiences that make our communities extraordinary.
And that is how our motto was born:
Every diamond tells a story. Every canvas tells a legacy.
Crown Jewel began because I went searching for representation and couldn't find enough of it.
And now Crown Jewel is creating a space where more people can find themselves, their families, their traditions, and their stories, one diamond at a time.
Welcome to the Crown.
